The Baillie Gifford Schools Programme is a free literature festival for primary and secondary schools. Part of the Edinburgh International Book Festival, the programme provides access to some of the biggest names writing for children and young people today. The Baillie Gifford Schools Programme 2023 runs from 21st-29th August, culminating in a special Gala Day for primary schools on Tuesday 29th on the theme of ‘Happy Healthy You’.

This year’s programme is available in-person and will be hosted at the Edinburgh College of Art. Selected events are also available to watch online.

The line-up for the 2023 programme includes: Maisie Chan, Laura Dockrill, Phil Earle, Sarah McIntyre and Philip Reeve, Katie and Kevin Tsang, Dr Ranj, SF Said, Nadia Shireen and the shortlisted authors for this year’s YA Book Prize. See the full programme here.

Booking for in-person events opens on 25th April via an online booking form. Booking for online events opens on 14th June up to the day of your chosen event. To book an online event you will need to set up a free online account. If you can’t join the live event, there is also an on-demand facility.

  • Pupils attending an in-person event receive a free book related to the event and support for travel costs is available through the Baillie Gifford Transport Fund.
  • UK schools can take advantage of a 28% discount on bulk orders of 15 or more books. The offer applies to all books featured in the Baillie Gifford Schools and Children’s Programmes and is valid between 20th April and 30th September.
