The HFL Education National Primary English Conference 2024 will take place online on Wednesday 31st January. The theme for this year’s conference is My Voice, My Writing: Empowering Children to be Great Writers.
With contributions from academics, practitioners and award-winning authors, the conference will explore evidence-based, practical ways to enhance children’s experiences of writing. Topics include writing for authentic purpose and audience, the connections between talk, reading and writing, ensuring spelling and grammatical accuracy, and developing an inclusive writing curriculum.
Keynote speakers and workshop presenters include:
- Professor Michael Rosen – multi-award-winning author, performance poet, Professor of Children’s Literature at Goldsmiths, University of London and 2023 PEN Pinter Prize winner.
- Professor Neil Mercer – Emeritus Professor of Education and Director of Oracy Cambridge.
- Professor Debra Myhill – Professor Emerita of Language and Literacy University of Exeter.
- Katya Balen – award-winning children’s author.
- Naval Govender – Lecturer in English Language Education in the School of Education at the University of Strathclyde.
- Sam Creighton – Literacy Lead, Elmhurst Primary School, London, and former national journalist.
- Nicola Izibili – English consultant and founder of the Writing Web
- Amanda Webb – English Teaching and Learning Adviser, HFL Education
- Kirsten Snook – English Teaching and Learning Adviser, HFL Education
- Sonia Thompson – Headteacher/Director at St Matthew’s CofE Primary Research and Support Schools, Birmingham.
Cost: £149 ex VAT per person with unlimited access to recordings of all sessions for 28 days after the live event.
