The 2023 NATE Conference is an in-person event that runs from 24th – 25th June 2023 across two venues in central London – the Centre for Literacy and Primary Education and the British Library. This year’s theme is Enriching English: Preserving the Past, Shaping the Future and the conference will explore ways to make the study of English a meaningful and rewarding experience in the 21st Century classroom.
The conference provides two days of high-quality CPD covering the latest research, practical workshops and input from top authors and poets, as well as the opportunity to celebrate NATE’s 60th anniversary.
Presentations and workshops include:
- Why study English? Let me count the ways.
- Young madam, your poem was awful: Dr Johnson and the 21st century wordsmiths.
- Light perpetual: Creativity in English – past, present and future.
- Developing Oracy in your Classroom.
- A New Curriculum Direction for Poetry.
- The Harold Rosen Lecture.
- English, personal growth and the future of the subject.
- The intersection of art and writing.
- Retrieving Aesthetically: a focus on Rosenblatt’s work.
- Writing: a pleasure – a practical workshop aimed at motivating your students through deep thinking and engagement .
Cost: £180/£240 for NATE members/non-members for both days. Single day access also available.
About NATE: The National Association for the Teaching of English is an educational charity that was set up in 1963 to encourage, develop and share innovative approaches for the teaching of English, to be an advocate for the cultural and philosophical importance of English as a humane discipline, and to provide an independent voice for the English teaching profession.
