About The Poetry Society: The Poetry Society was founded in 1909 with the aim of promoting ‘a more general recognition and appreciation of poetry’ for all ages. The Poetry Society runs a number of poetry projects and competitions, including the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award. It also publishes The Poetry Review, the UK’s leading poetry magazine.

Literacy Hive Likes:

  • The lesson plans are written by poet-educators or experienced poetry teachers. All have extensive experience of encouraging young people to engage with poetry in the classroom.
  • The Poetry Train resource is a 32pp booklet of poetry activities developed by poets David Harmer and Roger Stevens as part of a research programme that looked at ways of improving teachers’ confidence in the teaching of poetry.
