Poets in Schools is a service offered by The Poetry Society that places poets in schools to run bespoke workshops, writing clubs, residencies or INSET training.

Schools outline their project and Poets in Schools will draw up a list of poets that best match those requirements from their nationwide database of poet educators.

Cost: Costs will vary depending on the project and the poet. There is also an administrative charge (free for The Poetry Society members).

About The Poetry Society: The Poetry Society was founded in 1909 with the aim of promoting ‘a more general recognition and appreciation of poetry’ for all ages. The Poetry Society runs a number of poetry projects and competitions, including the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award. It also publishes The Poetry Review, the UK’s leading poetry magazine.

Literacy Hive Likes:

  • Poetry can be used with children of all abilities.
  • Schools can tailor the poet’s visit to their specific needs, linking the visit to a particular theme/topic, or working with specific groups of children.
  • To be listed on the Poets in Schools database, poets must meet specific criteria set by The Poetry Society.
  • Online visits also available.
