The Diverse Book Awards 2022 – Winners Announced!

The winners of The Diverse Book Awards 2022 were announced on Thursday 20th October at a ceremony at Waterstones Piccadilly in London. Set up to celebrate outstanding inclusive fiction, there are three award categories: Children’s Fiction, Young Adult Fiction and Adult Fiction.

Benjamin Dean is the winner of this year’s Children’s Diverse Book Award for his debut book Me, My Dad and the End of the Rainbow, illustrated by Sandhya Prabhat (Simon & Schuster). Hey You! An Empowering Celebration of Growing Up Black by Dapo Adeola and others (Puffin) took second place, while The Very Merry Murder Club, edited by Robin Stevens and Serena Patel (Farshore) took third place.

 

In the Young Adult category, Natasha Bowen scooped the top prize for her novel Skin of the Sea (Penguin Random House Children’s) with Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé (Usborne) and You’re the One that I Want by Simon James Green (Scholastic) taking second and third place respectively.

 

 

The winner for he Adult Diverse Book Award 2022 is Kia Abdullah’s Next of Kin (HQ), followed by His Only Wife by Peace Adzo Medie (Oneworld) and Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson (Viking Books).
