A Sprinkle of Author Magic for World Book Day 2022

You may already have an author visit booked for the Big Day but, if you haven’t, there is still time to sign up for one of the many live events that are taking place online over World Book Day week. Many of the events are free, so browse our schedule and add a sprinkle of author magic to your World Book Day celebrations.
Monday 28th February
- World Book Day Live with Matilda and Friends. Launch World Book Day week with this special event featuring all this year’s World Book Day authors and some special guests, including live drawing from Chris Riddell and a performance from the cast of Matilda the Musical.

- Awesome Authorfest: Jasbinder Bilan. The award-winning author of Asha and the Spirit Bird, Tamarind and the Star of Ishta and Aarti and the Blue Gods will talk about the inspiration behind her books and her experiences growing up.

- Awesome Authorfest: Storyteller Lucy Walters will explore a magical world where letters from storybook characters are sorted and sent.

- Scholastic Schools Live: Julia Donaldson Presents a Pocketful of Songs. Enjoy a medley of songs and stories based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s award-winning books.

- World Book Day Live: Reality Check – Books as a Portal into Life Today. Join authors Ben Bailey Smith, Sharna Jackson and Rashmi Sirdeshpande as they talk about writing realist fiction and writing non-fiction on topical issues.

- Awesome Authorfest: bestselling author, Robert Muchamore, talks about his new series about a young Robin Hood living in a modern Sherwood Forest.

- World Book Day Live: Using your Imagination – Books as a Way to Imagine the Impossible. Join a host of World Book Day £1 book authors as they talk about creating fantastical worlds for their stories.

- Awesome Authorfest: Dame Jacqueline Wilson will be sharing some tips on how she creates characters that live on in the mind of readers long after they have finished reading the book.

If none of the scheduled live events are what you are looking for, don’t forget that Authors Live, Authorfy and ReadingZone all have libraries of recorded events and author interviews that you can access for free. The Really Big Pants Theatre Company have also produced two online shows – The Really Big Love Book Day Play and Suddenly – that can be used to celebrate World Book Day in primary schools.
