Brilliant Box of Books is an initiative that gifts boxes of new books to eligible Early Years providers, primary and secondary schools in order to help them provide a range of engaging and up-to-date texts that will encourage children and young people to read for pleasure.
Each box contains a carefully selected range of fiction and non-fiction texts tailored to the relevant age range worth £500.
Schools, Early Years providers, Alternative Education providers and Child and Youth Mental Health Services in the UK can apply online at any time. However, applications will only be reviewed when stock and funding permit. Applications are assessed against various metrics, including:
- Pupil premium levels
- EAL rates
- Evidence of a commitment to literacy and reading for pleasure

About Read for Good: Read for Good is a registered literacy charity whose mission is to improve the outcomes for all children in the UK by encouraging and enabling them to develop a love of reading. It has been running sponsored reads in schools since 1984 and providing brand-new books and storytelling events to children in the UK’s 30 major children’s hospitals since 2010.

- The Brilliant Box of Books initiative was developed in response to research that showed that the impact of the pandemic and increased demands on budgets had had a serious negative impact on the quality and number of books available to read for pleasure in schools.
