The Adrien Prize is a children’s book award that was founded in 2022 by best-selling author Elle McNicoll to celebrate positive and inspiring portrayals of disability and neurodiversity in children’s literature.

The Adrien Prize is currently open to middle-grade and young adult fiction titles published in the UK that feature a disabled or neurodivergent main character.

The shortlist for the Adrien Prize is chosen by a panel of adult judges. The overall winner, however, is selected by school reading groups across the country.

See the shortlist for this year’s Adrien Prize 2024 here. The winner was announced on X, formerly Twitter.

Timetable:

  • The shortlist is announced in January.
  • The winner is announced in the Summer term.

Cost: Free.

About the Adrien Prize: The Adrien Prize was set up in 2022 by award-winning author Elle McNicoll. It is named after one of the neurodivergent characters in her second novel Show Us Who You Are.
